This new recording presents the first recording of the violin sonata by Karen Khachaturian, nephew of the famous composer Aram Khachaturian, and one of the most notable composers of 20th century Armenia. It is a work of strong rhythmic drive, colorful textures and clearly inspired by the rich folklore of the composer’s homeland. As Karen’s Op.1, the Violin Sonata of 1947 is a remarkably assured work, cast in a Romantic vein with a soulful slow movement and a dance-like finale full of potent rhythmic drive.
